I'm in trouble

These two beautiful girls are the source of my troubles.
How could these little girls already be......
I am in trouble.

Big trouble.

But, I asked for it.

In fact, I prayed for it.

I prayed and asked the Lord for at least 2 girls. Now, I have 3. (One can't talk, so for now, I'll leave her out of this.)

The 2 girls that I am referring to are ages 8 and 11. Let me repeat that. They are 8 years old and 11 years old.

Ethan, he's the catalyst. I have been hearing a lot about a boy on the swim team named Ethan. Ethan is 11 or 12. And, if he wasn't clean from swimming, he'd be a dirty, rusty- necked little boy. And, that boy...he's playing my girls.

He told Gracie that she is his favorite female friend. Gracie has made SURE Shelby knows that Ethan called her his favorite female friend.

Shelby made sure to tell Gracie that he doesn't like her like that. Besides, Shelby informs Gracie that she knew him first AND HE is HER age. NOT Gracie's age.

Tonight, at 9:25 pm, as we are packing up to leave the swim meet, Gracie, who I only saw during the night if she wanted money or if she was swimming an event, came up to me crying because Shelby asked Ethan if he liked Gracie.

"I had to settle this between me and Gracie!", Shelby said.

To which I replied, "Why? What difference does it make if Gracie wants to think Ethan likes her?"

"She just needed to know the truth!"

(How come any time I hear the word truth I want to yell out YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!! Jack Nickelson in A Few Good Men).

Gracie, through tears and sniffs says, "But, she said it in front of my friends and I was so embarrassed."

Shelby then starts crying. (We are in the car at this point.) "But, Gracie told Ethan that I like him too. I just did the same thing she did, so why am I the one in trouble?"

My reply, "You are in trouble because you did it if front of her friends and embarrassed her!"

There is a bit of bickering going on between the girls.

Finally, I had had enough. "DOES IT REALLY MATTER WHO LIKES WHO? YOU'RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE WITH ETHAN. YOU'RE BOTH TOO YOUNG TO LIKE BOYS. YOUR TOO YOUNG TO DATE. AS A MATTER OF FACT, NEITHER OF YOU ARE ALLOWED TO DATE UNTIL YOUR 25. SO, UNTIL THEN, I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR ONE MORE WORD ABOUT ETHAN!!"

Peace and quiet settles over the van as I sink down into my leather seats and put my drink in my ($15,000) center console (see previous post, click here.) I am so glad I won't have to have this conversation again for another 14 years.

Because.... they are only 8 and 11.

P.S Ethan is REALLY cute!

I am laughing SO hard!! Sounds like a few years ago when one of my children claimed to be "going out" with someone of the opposite sex...

I just had to ask, "So what does that mean exactly?"

"I don't know..."

"Do you call each other on the phone?"

"No..."

"Do you e-mail each other?"

"No..." (I knew that was a 'no', said child didn't have an e-mail account!)

"So what do you do? Eat lunch together...hang out at recess?"

"No...just talk between classes in the hallway!"

(I didn't say this, but I almost laughed out loud thinking it...) "Hmmm... I bet that's some relationship... You have 2 minutes, 3-4 times a day...You can 'go out' like that for the next 10 years!!"

Aren't kids fun?! Have you started construction on your tower yet so you can keep those beautiful girls from all of the boys that are going to be knocking on your door? Or does dad at least have his shotgun ready?! (Oh...maybe we just do that here in the south!!)

I can't believe they are old enough to be even thinking about boys. I remember when they were born. Man I'm old.

I missed you!! I'll call you this week sometime!
